I'm looking for a movie download (A Very Long Engagement to be specific) and I found these torrent sites. I click download and open but when I open it a small internet window comes up for a second and then it asks to open it again. When I try to play the file from the folder I saved it in it says it doesn't recognize it. Am I doing this right? What am I supposed to do??

You need a torrent downloader. When you go to a torrent site you are just downloading the link to the file you want. (in a way). if you go to www.bittorrent.com then you can download the downloader and then when you double click on the torrent you have downloaded then the downloader will start up and ask you where you want to save the file. Then the file will start to download. I hope this helps.... if you need a better explaination then feel free to email me.

Firstly, you need software that can download torrents. Opera browser has it built in, or there are others about. A torrent is like file sharing eg limewire, both the sender (or seeder) of the file and the reciever (leetcher) of the file need to be online at the same time. (its a lot more complicated but thats the short version). What you download will be placed in a folder on your computer, but you can specify where it puts the folder. You will also recieve other files with the item you wanted. These files are usually instructions to the torrent software, letting it know that you have a complete file (seed) that can be shared. You may also find that the file has been compressed in some way. eg a zip file or a RAR file (similar to a zip file). To open a RAR file you would need the software that created it, such as WinRAR.

basically, torrent files are a checksum file for downloading files via bittorrent or bitcomet. you will have to have one of these clients to download the actual movie.
