Why is it that black history month is the shortest month of the year?
Not trying to be racist, but that is how it is.

Why is there a Black History Month at all? I don't notice a White History Month anywhere in the calendar.

And the same goes for the Black Music Awards and all the other "minority only" events, ceremonies and institutions.

It wasn't so many years ago that the World was in uproar because of an institution in South Africa called Apartheid which required black and white to be kept separate with "black only" buses, for example. Much the same occurred in the Southern USA. Yet we seem to be operating the same sort of thing in such matters as history (which we all share) with the blessing of the government and many of these same people who regarded Apartheid as racist.

Can't people see that for there to be racial harmony and integration people have to be colour BLIND, not have separate institutions for each race. What is the difference, for example, between having a Black Music Award and, say, a black-only sporting event at the Olympics? There would be protests and boycotts if the IOC introduced black-only sporting events with accusations of racism and demands that everyone be permitted to compete on equal terms, and rightly so but somehow these racist "black only" events are permitted.

If different racial groups want a voice then they should have an EQUAL voice, not something that is made more than equal by banning the white majority from having an equal say as well - setting up "black only" groups or having "black only" events like Black History Week seems to be either an admission of inferiority (which it most certainly should not be) or positive discrimination (which will only cause resentment and more prejudice).

Good question. I don't know why that is but hey I don't mind!! As long as there is one. As long as ppl like some of the ppl who answered this question don't get their way. Talk trash if you want to but white people get plenty of days. Like presidents day. What the hell kinda holiday is that? It's a national holiday and why? Presidents are cool and all but hell what have they don'e for us lately? But Martin Luther king day is still only a floating holiday where I am, for crying out loud the man helped free a nation!! The white race hasn't been through anything that drastic. the reason there is no white history month is because what would you talk about? How you took the land from the indians? How you captured and enslaved black ppl? Oh wait I've got it!! THE HOLOCAUST!! There would be nothing positive to talk about for White history month, don't blame us blame you ancestors.

Before there was black history month it was celebrated only for a day, then a week, then finally they designated it to be a month (even if its the shortest). Lets be grateful!

So no one has to hear racists whine like babies for 31 days...

Besides, there is Italian Heritage month, Polish Heritage month, Irish heritage month, German Heritage month.. and last I looked, all of those people are white. The only reason it's called Black Heritage month is because most blacks don't know exactly which country in Africa they come from. If they knew, there would be Ghanaian history month, Nigerian History Month, Ugandan History month. But since they don't have the luxury of knowing where they come from exactly, like most whites, they have to lump themselves together into African American history month. if whites want their heritage to be celebrated as much, do what blacks did and lobby for it. Here in Chicago, St. Patrick's day is such a big deal, they dye the freakin' river green. They don't do anything like that for Black history month...

Because that's the way it should be! Black history month is the most racist thing out there today. If the blacks really want to have equality, they should just call them selves AMERICANS and not African Americans.

I know always wondered that too...everyone asks that question....why don't we equally celebrate the history of all every single day instead of having to delegate one month to this and one month to that......Samuel Jackson said "the only way to get rid of racism is to stop talking about it"
