Now Republicans block a Democratically planned Senate debate over Iraq. What does everyone here think of this? That's a beautiful example of the bipartisanship Bush was all teary-eyed over in the SOTU address. Let's have a bipartisan dialogue Bush, yes, let's do that. But first, the Republicans need to be willing to have their feet put to the fire and stand their ground. Instead, they run from debate. It's ironic that those who call liberals "cowards" now wear the label themselves. Yep, guess my position on this one is clear, what's yours?

I wouldn't have a problem with the Republicans disagreeing with the Dems proposal, but it is ridiculous that they will not even open a debate on the topic of the war after the American people have showed oeverwhelmingly that they are no longer in favor of it. That's okay. If they want this war to be squarely placed on their shoulders, they can have it. Let them explain to the American people why they chose not to listen to them. If they continue to take this approach, there will be hell to pay for Republicans in '08. Hillary in '08.......can't come soon enough.

Yea well after years of the democrats running and crying away from the majority party's plans, maybe it's the Republicans' turn to try and reverse this majority party's rulings, I mean it's only fair. However, I think Bush should find the money for the war somewhere else, and not from taxes eather, we have the worst economy in the world, being that we are in the most debt, I know that people say we have the best but I disagree.

I think the republicans are just still being sore losers from November. There's not much left to say, no, but debate is still necessary. The dems and the pubs need to make history by reaching across the isle and raising their hands together in opposition to this worst of plans. There isn't a right answer now, and it's our elected officials' jobs to work one out (and clean up Bushs and their own mess).

you're saying it acceptable. i imagine he has an undiagnosed case of bipolar coz he seems to face for the "morals" of the church and yet, he would not hesitate to more effective amplify the war in iraq with assistance from soliciting for no longer merely that 245B yet also request to deliver 20,000+ extra troops to iraq. are you able to imagine what number adult adult males and women all and multiple seems gonna struggle through? moms who've merely given beginning -- ought to go back to iraq after the confinement era. And staring at the volume of suffering of the iraq human beings and the american troops, and yet a number of those troops who've lost their limbs and are in such intense condition... even as requested even if or not they favor to bypass decrease back to serve -- they don't hesitate to say "certain". i really won't be able to have self belief what's occurring. i imagine the Bush admin might want to apply the money to provide each and every between the defense force troops who've served in iraq: a sparkling living house, a sparkling 4 wheel drive, an rate-paid holiday for them and their kinfolk to holiday everywhere contained in the international 3 situations/year for the subsequent 10 years, deliver their youthful ones to the acceptable universities contained in the country (all prices lined), set up a 401K for each defense force workers and put in $100,000 in it -- the troops deserve it. THEY DESERVE A destroy FROM THIS INSANE war!!!!!!

Democrats do not have a majority in the Senate. They have 50 votes and Cheney is the tie breaker. Remember, Tim Johnson is in the hospital.

As usual, you are an agent of the lefties. Your facts are wrong and your premise is completely misleading.

Where were you when Democrats were trying to fillibuster judicial nominees last term? This had never happened

When Democrats are in power, the Republicans need to be bipartisan. When Republicans are in power, Democrats said that Republicans needed to work for them. The only way Democrats will be happy is if they have a complete majority in both houses and the Presidency.

I am a Democrat - but don't you think the time for debate is over - what is left to say? I am all for debate if it keeps these morons from screwing up the economy - but otherwise I think everyone knows where they stand. If someone has changed their mind fine - otherwise its old and getting older.

Good Luck!!!

the idea is its time to put up or shut up, for the congress.. the blocked item was just for a non binding discussion.. WORTHLESS.. its time for them to vote on thier beliefs and put their careers on the line not for innate chatter and other BS... they should vote on finding options and stand for what they belive in. It would be a waste of time and effort to have a "discussion" they can discuss in their personal time. If we are to continue or end this war we are in action must be taken not political careerists trying to make sound bites in speeches.

debate implies fighting with brains instead of guns, and requires diplomacy. I know it doesn't surprise you that the reps seem to posses neither. They don't even VALUE dilpomacy with other nations! How on earth would they be successful in a productive conversation?

If approved at the end of this year, the cost of the war on terror will be greater than the 13 year Vietnam War.
