I'm looking for a really good anti-virus/firewall program. Doesn't have to be free, afterall, you pay for what you get. Thanks!!

It depends on which program has more updated "virus definition" files. Any answer is a guess. I would guess the av-xp is right unless the McAfee software is up to date too. Depending on the severity of the infection, it might be best to leave it alone. Anti virus software has become worse than the virus themselves.

well you said it doesn't need to be free so Norton is the best one, None of free anti-virus software are good they don't even attempt to remove spyweres and some virus. with Norton. symantec provides you updates for it everyday with a valid subscription for a year. After a year you will have to purchase a new subscription that it will also be valid for a year. i guarantee with Norton anti virus you will not have any problem I've purchased it and it works very well better than those free soft wares

Avira Antivir is one of the best antivirus programmes and is not hard on the system. It is also free! :)

IMHO, Mcafee and Norton are too hard on the system and don't have the reliability to show for it.
I've been using Antivir for at least 3 years and have had no serious infections even though my computer behaviour is very high-risk :-D
Give it a try...I find it better than Grisoft AVG.

The best Internet security package is Bitdefender internet security 10. http://internet-security-suite-review.toptenreviews.com/ . That's a review for it. As you can see, it is the best. BitDefender is also the best anti-virus. http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/

For something free you could download Ad-Aware se personal, which you could buy too. They are all really good programs! I've got them!

Good Luck!

NOD32 is a well priced, low impact virus protection software. Firewall software, well most routers have it built in or Windows own firwall on XP is adequate.

AVG Free. I use this as it has a very good antivirus checker. Also you get free updates. You can download it from http://free.grisoft.com/freeweb.php/doc/5390/lng/us/tpl/v5 just scroll down and click on the link.
