DBA stands for DataBase Administrator. The DBA is the person who maintains the database - such as creating, modifying, or deleting tables of information, setting up relationships between the various tables, creating views, queries, and managing database users. It's not a complete description by any means, because the job can be pretty complex.

The DBA in an enviornment like Amazon would help maintain the database that is used by the company to power their web site.
