Mine do that, as well. First of all, you need more calcium...drink milk, even 1% will help, or if you can't, get calcium supplements.
Second of all, do you use a lot of hair products? Sometimes that will help in the destruction of your nails. After use, make sure to wash your hand with a gentle soap, and luke warm water. Immediately after patting the hands dry, use a hand and nail lotion/cream. This will help with strengthing, and also keep your hands nice and soft.

Many years ago my nails developed pits and became brittle. Sally Hansen had a strengthener that help stop them from breaking but did not solve the problem.
I went to a couple of doctors who prescribed medicines and creams which did not work. I ate jello too and that seemed to do nothing.
When I went on the zone diet I ate much more protein than I had been and after a couple of months my nails were in great shape (and I lost some weight too).
I would guess its a diet issue. Maybe add some protein to your diet and take a multivitamin for a month and see how your nails are.
Good Luck!

I always heard that when you file your nails, it weakens them. Try and only file in one direction, not back and forth. ALso, keep a thin layer of clear coat on them, maybe something with strengthener. You also can take vitamins for this, which I think will strengthen your hair too.
