For a nice and accessible discussion of Andromeda this site serves well:

http://www.solstation.com/x-objects/andromeda.htm

The data they present suggests that the mass of Andromeda is roughly between 7 x 10^11 and 1.2 x 10^12 solar masses. (The Milky-Way may be as much as 1.9 x 10^12 solar masses).

In any event, the site above contain a plethora of pictures of Andromeda taken various way to give an over all feel for size and composition.
