Look, I used to kill people in basketball but now I'm losing it. I took a two day break off basketball and when I returned to the gym I lost control of my handles, shots, and lay-ups. I felt like killing myself after that horrid game. I get people around school saying "Wow, nobody can beat Vince 1on1, guaranteed!" or "Dude, holy crap! Are you on the basketball team?" Those were my glory days, but it's now all diminised. Now I deny games when I get offers. I soon realized I was scared to play my hardest in bball games. I have low self-esteem/confidence sometimes. I'm just weak and I act shy when I play now. I don't even play that hard anymore.
Now:
>>1. What's the best thing to do before a game starts? Training routines/should I drink a Monster energy drink prior to the game?<<
>>2. HOW can I boost my confidence?<<
>>3. How can I unleash the beast inside of me to demonstrate my true skill?<<
Thanks so much. Be sure to answer ALL of the questions too.

1. Focus, try imaginating yourself playing good. Try eating pasta the nigth before the game, it will give you great energy. Energy drink will give you temporary energy, not that good right before a game.
2. First of all, stop saying you're not good and stop thinking about your horrible game. It's all past, move forward. Think about what you used to do when you were that good of a player. Say to yourself that you're the best and that no one can beat you, it will help. If you really lost all your skills in a 2 days break, which I doubt, just go to the gym and practice alone.
3. Only you can know that. Maybe it won't happen in your first game, but with one or two good moves, you should be able to give it all.

It's about confidence....Your problem is all mental. You need to go out and just keep playing the game.
As far as what is best to do before a game, well you need to find what gets you mentally prepared. Could be listening to your iPod and having some alone time to just stretching and meditating on how you want to play.
Energy drinks do not always help...sometimes you get the crash effect from them. Just make sure to drink plenty of fluids and you are eating healthy and taking care of your body.
Questions 2 & 3 are back to your state of mind. You have let your inner man tell you that you have lost that edge. You can never lose it. You need to find just what it was that made you play differently from now to how you played before. Has something changed in your personal life? School? You need to learn to leave that stuff at the door and when you step onto that court it is all about the bball and your team mates.

Find some stimulating music to which to listen - I recommend some "old-school" heavy metal like Led Zeppelin. Then "zone out" and just play the game inside your mind - anticipate every game situation you can dream of and your reaction to it.
Unless you NEED it desperately, forgo the energy drink. It will simply make you hungrier after the game, and then you're liable to overeat beyond what your body really needs.
YOU have to believe that you're the BEST every time you step on the court - and I mean BELIEVE it way down DEEP inside your soul. Then play your best - if you get beat, then ask for a rematch and play even harder.
To "unelash the beast", think of a time when someone did something to you that you didn't like - that you deeply resented and transfer that dislike to the person or persons you're playing. Be sure that you "leave it on the court", however - you will "burn yourself out" if you don't.

OK i play ball to and i am very cocky, ask your self are you the best? You know you are, so prove it! before a game stretch and picture yourself as THE BEST BALL-A EVER! because if you act like it you will be it, just work on ball handling in your spare time and at home Lay on your back and shoot in the air to work on back-spin, every basketball player knows that you need to put spin on the ball for the perfect swish or any good shot. Good luck____Mattie

You are psyching yourself out, a two day break is not going to change your skills that much. Dude ,"JUST DO IT". Even Michael Jordan has days that the ball want go in. Practice, practice practice.
