I have made many phone calls to attorneys all want $3,000-$10,000 down as a retainer. How does a single mom suppose to come up with this type of cash and expect to keep her home and kids at the same time? I can pay up to $2,000 down and I am willing to mediate if he is, but he isn't so I am stuck what should I do?

Call legal aid...they might be able to help you...in Texas if you apply for Medicaid for your children, they automatically send the attorney general after them for child support...

Check in you area to see if there is an Attorney who will do some Pro Bono work. Also check to see if there is any agency or local law that might help. I know some Attorneys or agencies will help a single mother find a attorney at a reasonable price or be willing to work out a payment schedule for you.

Go to the Child support services you are paying child support to, and tell them that the children are living with you 24/7 and have been for the past year. Then stop sending her money, and fill out the papers, to have her start paying child support. Shouldn't need a lawyer for that, so long as you can prove the kids are with you.

Have you tried Legal Aid. It's free or they go by a sliding scale of your income.

Have you checked if it's an easy road to tow if you just get a court hearing without an attorney?
