I have to go to a wedding on Saturday (not in the wedding) and am trying to decide what is best to wear.

Any color would do. Black goes with everything. Try not to go with a tie that is too busy (multi-colors). Just choose a color that you like the best maybe something that brings out the color of your eyes. Try to cordinate as much as possible and pay attention to detail. Step it up a notch and get yourself some cuff links.

DO NOT WEAR A NAVY BLUE TIE WITH A BLACK SHIRT!!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a clash of colors....I have always said that when wearing a dark shirt, wear a light colored tie, and the opposite, too.
So, to go with a black shirt...first of all, depending on the season. Is it winter weather, or warm, or so-so where the wedding is. If it is wintry, then a grey/silver tie will look very sharp. A royal blue, or slightly lighter will look very nice, as well. (don't go too light, as that is going to look odd for a wintry wedding). Red will also look very nice. A solid green (not a pale or dark green, but just a green) will look nice too.
And...get the colors of the wedding too, as that will narrow down your colors a little. I am guessing that the colors will be a royal blue and grey , or something with forest green.

Ties with a black shirt really just vary. It really depends on your personality. A cream or a red tie is what I would reccomend if in doubt. Any color would be fine, you can't go wrong with a black shirt! Dillards or Men's Warehouse is a great place to shop for dressy men clothes.

Go with something that is not loud. If you know what colors are in the wedding stay away from those colors. Try something dark like navy blue.

Anything plain or with small designs - something shiny. I would go with a lighter color if it's a day wedding and a darker color if it's a night wedding.
If your pants have a pinstripe in them, try to go with a color that would compliment that, or that color exactly.

I think any color would look good with black. (not white though). I love the way a guy looks in dark colors, so I would say maybe a dark red or maroon, or maybe like a royal blue, (not dark blue).

I was thinking more white, dark red, or soft pink (if you're comfortable wearing pink). I think they look the best. But it depends on what occasion you're wearing the black shirt for

wIt is all very dependant on the colour of the jacket that you are wearing. If it is black too, any colour will look good. I prefer silver gold and blood red.

I would say that ivory or off white would look best. It is classy and understated, and you won't take attention away from any of the bridal party.
