I planted red tip protinia shrubs 2 years ago and am waiting for them to grow up high like the others already in my back yard. I have new ones on a long L-shaped back part of my yard I need to grow up for privacy and noise reasons. What can I plant in front of my shrubs to grow fast and fill in? I'd like the look of a woodland back yard setting. I'm thinking about english laurel. Any other ideas? Something that can stand wet soil sometimes when the rain water runs off of our back yard.

Try a ligustrum. http://edis.ifas.ufl.edu/BODY_MG022

Please be careful when considering bamboo. It can be extremely invasive especially if it is not the clumping variety.

If forsythia grows in your climate, plant this stuff...It blooms a bright yellow early in spring, and it looses all its leaves in the winter, but it grows like a weed.

Consider spirea. It's a pretty fast grower and fills in very well. Plus, it smells great when it blooms.

Bamboo, looks like grass and fills in pretty quickly and nicely.
