Neocon = neo-conservative. It technically means those who are new to the conservative movenment, such as Reagan Democrats, but it also refers to tax and spend Republicans (a/k/a RINOs, Republicans In Name Only).

The two groups that use it most (and almost always incorrectly) are Europeans who love the word although the always use it out of context. European TV, especially in Britain has a fascination with the word, Europeans parrot it without understanding the concept. American liberals who use it to describe moderate Republicans, half the time incorrectly, and half the time as a baiting tactic.

It is rarely used in it's proper context.

Neocon is short for "neoconservative," a term for a new breed of Republicans. They apparently eschew the basic concepts of "small-government" Republicanism in the name of aggressive foreign policy and tighter domestic security. However, this definition is very debatable.

Many people have applied the term "neocon" to the Bush administration as a way of differentiating that administration from the "traditional" Republican Party.
