Go to irs.gov. They have a list of places that will do it for free--depending on your income. It's worth it to take a look.

If your income is less than $54000, free efile is cheapest--FREE. Then print it out and go to your state's website and do free state efile. Some accountants will do it cheaper. But the advantage of the big firms like Jackson Hewitt or Block is their training of employees and guarantees of their work. A lot depends on the preparer (so check them out), no matter where you go. And then there's the complexity of your return. Kimberly is right, there are free filing places, depending on your income in most localities. Look up TAPP, ask at your library.

Turbo Tax on the internet. It is perfectly safe and they guide you every step of the way. I used to use H&R Block, but their rates kept going up considerably year after year. I then went to Liberty Tax and they didn't seem very knowledgable, and I wondered if they missed something. A Tax accountant could be an option, but it might take some time and effort to find a good one. Look for recommendations. In the meantime, go with Turbotax at www.turbotax.com

Turbo tax - NEVER, NEVER, NEVER use H&R Block!

Block is expensive. They don't teach their student everything they need to know to prepare returns (lots of things are "beyond the scope of this course"). When they don't get enough people to hire, based on passing the class/final, they change the rules. They will hire people that flunked the final! They even teach wrong info at times. Some students know more than the teacher and have to correct the teacher about wrong info being discussed.
