My girlfriend and I (both 29 - from Chicago) will be staying there for a few days in March. We're looking for a nice hotel, with a big pool, that is semi-close to restaurants so we can walk or take a cab at night. Hotels that are close to other fun things to do (mtn biking, cool day trip somewhere, etc.) would be great too!

Phoenix has a different "feel" from Scottsdale. It depends on the cash you want to spend to. If you want more of a Phoenix feel then I'd stay at the Biltmore. That is where the president stays when he visits :-) It is close to the Biltmore fashion square that has a lot of dining and resurants nearby. It has a little construction going on in the shopping center though so parking isn't so great.

I'd also recomend the Scottsdale Princess (nice Scottsdale hotel) or the Phoenican (a Phx hotel but more of a Scottsdale feel and close to the Scottsdale Fashion Square.. tons of great shopping and resurants).

Also a good bet are the Pointe Resorts, there is The Pointe at Tappaitio (sp) and The Point as Sqaw Peak.

Good luck and have a great trip!

I like to stay at the Gainey Suites Hotel in Scottsdale. Its nice because each room really is a suite with a kitchenette...some have 2 bedrooms. If you've got some money to spend, get a room with pool/courtyard view...its nicer than the parkinglot view, for obvious reasons. Ground floor is better. They serve a light breakfast and FREE happy hour every evening. The pool is nice, but its not huge. Plus, its right next to a shopping village that has several restaurants and about 10 minutes from the freeway. I've stayed there a couple of times and its really nice. Gainey Suites ahs a complimentary shuttle that takes you around if you need to be dropped off or picked up locally. Theres a Hilton (may have been a Hyatt) somewhere around there thats supposedly also really nice...has a gigantic pool with slide. When we stayed, horseback riding was less than an hours drive away, as was a water park and other fun things. Its a great location...you'll like it.

You really should read some reviews of thes hotel (and others) on www.tripadvisor.com where people rate hotels they've stayed in. The site ranks the hotels based on the best ratings and people put up their own photos to help others decide.

Without a doubt I would recommend you stay at the Hotel Valley Ho. The name is odd, but it is THE hip hotel to be staying at...it's located in Old Town Scottsdale which is just minutes away from all the nightlife you can imagine AND plenty of restaurants to suit your every taste bud. If you're looking for a day trip, anywhere you stay in Phoenix/Scottsdale will take some time to travel north about 1.5 to 2 hours...as "touristy" stuff is mostly in Sedona. Good luck and have a great time!

Phoenix and Scottsdale especially are very spread out cities. my advice would be to stay at any of the large resort type hotels. go for a nice hotel instead of one close to restaurants and stuff to do.

But there is one hotel that i would recommend over all the other hotels and it is across the street from some of the nicest restaurants in Scottsdale.

Check out
The Westin
Kireland Resort and Spa

it is across the street from Kireland commons
a shopping area with some great restaurants like
The Green House
North
The Counter
Zinc Bistro
and many more...
not to mention it has some amazing shopping

The Phoenician is the flashiest and priciest. Great pool
Royal Palms hotel is also very nice and romantic! Have fun!!
James hotel is a trendy spot in Scottsdale. Close to all the bars and shopping.
All 3 spots you will be able to take a short cab around. The James you will be able to walk to old town scottsdale. I would definetly stay in Scottsdale. There is no nightlife in downtown phx.

Cool things to do:
Hike Camelback Mtn
Sedona (2-3 hr drive)
Jerome (2-3 hr drive)
Bisbee (3 hr drive)

ARIZONA BILTMORE!!! the pool is AWESOME... huge, waterfalls, lush setting, etc. Feels like you are in a movie... and rightly so! If you look up the history of the AZ Biltmore, it's where the Hollywood stars of the 20's, 30's and 40's congregated. Was a big hot spot back then. Frequented by Howard Huges, Catherine Hepburn, etc. Very cool place.

JW Marriott is nice with one of the best pools and is right next to Desert Ridge, which has some night life. It is also within a day trip to
Sedona (2hrs) where you can do some of the best hiking/mtn biking in the world.

Try the Cresent Sheraton or the Pointe Hilton at Tapatio Cliffs
Make sure to take a "tour" of the hotels.
