Is there an enclosed terrace or walkway to provide access between the two buildings or does one have to go outside one to enter another?
I am trying to decide on whether to bring a coat or not.

Very few people bring coats with them to San Diego, especially if you are coming from a cooler climate. Nights in the winter are still in the 50's or warmer and you won't need one to walk across the street to the hotel. If you plan on going to the beach or to the waterfront in the evening, you may want one. A light coat such as a "Member's Only" type windbreaker would be just fine.

It's right across the street, there is no hotel directly connected.
