As a matter of fact, all this dreary winter weather (I have five feet of standing snow from snow drifts and blizzards in my front yard) is to be blamed on El Nino. Global warming could eventually make Antarica habitable, I suppose, but rather than let that happen we (as in global governments and the UN) should make a very hard effort to stop global warming before it gets that bad. Not only that, but there might not be enough humans left to colonize Antartica because our food supply would begin to die out because of regional extinction of both flora and fauna.

Firstly Antartica would not heat up enough to become habitable in our life time maybe in ten thousand years or so, secondly it was agreed by all the worlds governments that Antarctica would never be owned by a single country and would be shared for scientific endevours.

Antarctica will be the Cuba we Americans can't go to. Balmy beaches with gambling casinos under the UN control. High rollers will be flying in from all over the globe.
Every visitor will pay a tax for the environment to the UN, because they are good a spending every ones money.

The Antarctic Treaty was signed in 1959 by 12 countries. The treaty prohibits military activities and mineral mining, supports scientific research, and protects the continent's ecozone.
The US and Russia signed the treaty but have reserved the right to claim areas. Australia and Argentina have the largest land claims.

Antarctica's too cold to live on, and it's impossible to grow any kind of crops there. Not to mention that as the temperatures heat up, more and more ice shelves will start breaking off, causing anything to be very instable.
People visit and stay on Antarctica for months and years, but I don't really know of there being a really sustainable economy or there being real natives there.

Personally I think that Antartica shifted to Wisconsin - we have had our highs (before wind chill) reach -16, and with wind chill, the air temp is -45! It may not be as cold as Antartica, but it is pretty dam close.

Funny how people keep barking on about global warming, as if it was actually . going to happen at all. the same scientist , that in the 70s claimed we were heading for and ice age. I guess they got bored with the ice age stuff, and tried it from and other angle . they were right about one thing, liberals are stupid enough to believe them, even when they should of lost their credibility with the ice age crap,.the libs. still embrace every off the wall ideal, because I think liberals don't believe in common sense. and if you practice anything long enough even stupidity, you usually achieve it .
