A blighted ovum (also known as “anembryonic pregnancy”) happens when a fertilized egg attaches itself to the uterine wall, but the embryo does not develop. Cells develop to form the pregnancy sac, but not the embryo itself. A blighted ovum usually occurs within the first trimester before a woman knows she is pregnant. A high level of chromosome abnormalities usually causes a woman’s body to naturally miscarry. With an early pregnancy failure, you'll get a positive result on a pregnancy test, because the placenta begins to develop anyway and starts to secrete human chorionic gonadtrophin (hCG), the hormone that these tests look for. Early on, you may also have some of the symptoms common in a normal pregnancy, such as fatigue, nausea, and sore breasts. Later, when the hormone levels begin to go down, these symptoms will subside and you're likely to have spotting or bleeding.

How old are you? There is no such thing as an empty egg. You are taking the egg too literal. You are taking it to be like that of a chicken egg. It is not like that. If she is not preganant anymore it is because of one of the following reasons.
She had a miscarriage if she was more than 5 months pregnant
She ahd an abortion if she was less than 5 months pregnant
(these happened naturally)
She had a deliberate abortion.
The egg is not an egg with a shell. That would be impossible since this egg turns into a human being.
Do some research about the preganacy process.

Its called a blighted ovum...sperm and egg meet, form a sac, but don't develop. All that is there is the empty sac. You get 2 choices...either let it miscarry naturally or have a d&c. A blighted ovum is fairly common. I found out at 9 weeks that this is what had happened.

It is called a blighted ovum and yes this happens...It is when the pregnancy is there but the baby failed to develop and never implanted itself in the wall of the uterus...they would be able to tell she was pregnant by a positive pregnancy test and they would be able to see the sac just no baby..it is complicated but this happens more than u think.

It is a blighted ovum. My sil had it. She was pregnant. The fetus was just unable to form. there could be many reasons. In my sil's case she needed progestrine shots for her second pregnancy to keep her levels high enough to support a fetus.. I am very sorry for her loss..

Have a paternity test done and announce the results. Just let your family know that you found out she was with someone else and the parentage of the baby is now in question.

Sounds like either A)she miscarried or b) she was telling him she was pregnant to try and keep him or make him feel guilty. Did he go with to the appointments and hear the Dr tell her how far along she was??
