The same hormones that began any woman's puberty.
Puberty today DOES begin at 8 - 10 years old due to plastics that convert to synthetic estrogens that are in our United States diet like canned baby formulas and vegetables and growth hormones injected into our meat supplies.

Also, it may be hereditary. If grandma, maternal or paternal, started early, as the case of my two daughters, then watch for signs of puberty early on.

Many girls begin their periods at 9,10, or 11 these days. The puberty process actually begins 2 years prior to the onset of a girl's first period.
Phase one is body hair (armpits, pubic)
Phase two is breast development (small mass behind nipple)
Phase three is hip widening and vaginal discharge
Phase four Menses

There are all kinds of hormones that kick off early puberty estrogen and androgen are the 2 main ones for woman. You can go to www.webmd.com and read up on early puberty. I was 10 when I started my period and I was between 8-9 when I started with breast and pubic hair. I have a terrible time with my periods and have PCOS. While there has not been a link YET to early puberty and PCOS most woman started puberty that have PCOS. I hope this helps.

The same hormones that cause puberty in all women. Progesterone, oestrogen, FSH, LH. Early puberty isn't well understood, but it has been documented that women now have puberty much earlier than 100 years ago, so it could be natural progression.

Some people just start earlier than others. I started at 9 (what a repulsive thing to have happen at that age). I always thought it was because my mother was 43 when she had me. In fact, I blame all my nuttiness on that. LOLOL
