Washington D.C. is the capital because it isn't a state, and it was the middle of the country at the time it was created .... It's not a state so no state would have superiority over another. Obviously it's not in the middle of the nation NOW, but lots of land has been settled in the west ... like, ALL of the land .... It made sense then, when there were only a few states on the East Coast.

New York is part of the U S A. So washington D C is the capitol for New york.

The first capital was in New York. Then it moved to DC. Why, I'm still not sure.

Perhaps the same reason Ottawa is the capital of Canada and not Toronto. They wanted it more inland and not vulnerable to attackers. We still got it in 1812 though!!

Because they wanted the capital to be on a neutral territory. Washington DC isn't actually a state. This way no state would have more power over another.

why wouldn't philly be the cap of the usa it is the birth place of so many things here in the usa if NYC was a cap then chicago LA seattle or kansas
