Well son, they don't actually plan on stopping global warming, as there is nothing they can do to change the natural fluctuations in our climate. With Koffi Annan, the first African General Secretary of the UN, the UN did nothing to fight genocide, starvation and civil wars throughout Africa in his 10 year reign.
Why? There was no money to be made in it. They put sanctions on Iraq because Annan, his son, and several European countries and companies made money on the Oil-For-Food debacle. The got involved in Somalia because there was money to be made in Quat. But if there is no financial reason for the UN to get involved they'll stay in NY and advice the neo-liberals on American foreign affairs policy.
The UN hated Bolton because he told them (literally) where they could stick their advice on US affairs. The UN made sure their neo-leb pawns would not accept Bolton's reassignment. Great for the UN, bad for ther US.
