I'm learning about journalism in school and I'm having difficulty 'getting' how to write journalistically. So: how do you write a newspaper article?

I am the editor-in-chief for my high school paper. The answers above me are correct. When trying to write journalistically, avoid personal pronouns such as "I". You have to stick with the facts. You could say this reporter witnessed blah blah blah. It depends on what type of article you are writing. If you are writing about a recent event, you need to mention the who, what, where, when, why, and how. If you are writing a feature, the first paragraph should hook the reader. Keep them reading. Write in a concise manner or readers will lose interest. Good luck.

you always want the WHO, WHAT, WHEN, WHERE, WHYand HOW in the story--that's the basic information that a good newspaper story demands.
WHO did what, WHAT was it they did, WHEN did they do it, WHERE did it occur, WHY did they do it and HOW did they do it.
Put those key words on a piece of paper, write the answers next to them and then flesh out the story with FACTUAL details. There's your story.
