Many years ago at the battle of Thermopylae, the invading Persians used cobras to try and uproot the Greeks from their positions. Luckily, the Greeks had brought their own mongooses to the battle which they kept near them to repel the snakes.

Ever since, mongooses and cobras have been mortal enemies. Cobras have sworn revenge for their humiliating defeat. Persians, today, stomp on cobras because they blame them for losing that war.

There's no doubt in my military mind, the mongoose would win. The cobra's venom is useless as spit if he can not strike his assailant. The mongoose is so fast and so quick that the cobra could not bite him before he he was killed. The mongoose circles his prey, which confuses the cobra. As the cobra rises to strike, the mongoose slips behind him, grabs and shakes the cobra. The cobra coils again to strike, but it's too late, the mongoose has outwitted he venomous prey...the cobra is dead.

Because Cobras eat Moongoose. Wouldn't someone be your enemy if they tried to eat you?

Google always had answers.
