I had a fiesta with the same problem. I had it checked many times and was told nothing was wrong. I don't like machines which have minds of their own...so I got rid of it.
I suggest you do the same.

Hi

Check the tyre condition and pressures before you do anything else, and then move onto the front shocks.

Bounce the front corners of the car quite vigorously one at a time and then let go. Once you have let go it should go DOWN UP DOWN SETTLE. Any more than that and you have a worn shock.

You may even be able to feel whether one corner feels softer than the other.

Your next port of call would be the bottom balljoints (wishbone ends).

Jack up one front corner of the car, grab the road wheel at the top and bottom, and then rock the wheel by forcing your hands in opposite directions to each other with good effort. You should not feel any rocking in the wheel whatsoever. If you do then have someone put their foot hard on the brake whilst you carry out the check again. If the rocking is still there then its the bottom balljoint, if it disappears with the footbrake applied then its a worn wheelbearing.

Do the same at the other wheel.

If these checks show up nothing then have the alignment checked out at a reputable establishment.

Cheers

Geordie

Wow can you belive the guy that answered your question wow a mad republican i would imagine. any way Have an alingment done. if you let go of the wheel does it go one way or another?/ usully it will drift right because of the crown in the road. you may have some bad tie rod ends also or an Idler arm. Dont go to firestone or some big across the nation place. Look in the phone book and find a place that specilized in Ford and Chevy. or call a mechanic and ask them where would you send a customer for front end work. If they had a car coming in on the hook or towed in they would send it to a place for repair if they couldnt repair it themselves so you want to know where that place is, it would be a good spot because the mechanic does not want come backs plus he wants new businesss I am a mechanic and you will be good.

Have you checked your tyre pressures? do this when the tyres are cold. Also check your tyre depths, and are they wearing evenly?. If your steering wheel vibrates at speeds over 40m.p.h. there is a definate fault , if so, get it checked a.s.a.p. Most large outlets I.E Quickfit, will do this free of charge.

It could be anything, from wrong tyre pressures, worn suspension units, worn or loose steering linkage, anything worn or lose infact could be the prob. Its a matter of checking the whole front end from top to bottom.

Get the front end suspension checked out, you will most likely find that the wishbone rear bushes are worn.

have the tires and alignment checked. You may have a bad radial tire or the alignment is way off. Hit anything recently? A curb or a pothole?
