I agree absolutely. It is urban people who like foxes as they never have any dealings with them. I watched a whole litter of bunnies die when I was unsuccessful in feeding them after their mother was one of many rabbits killed by a fox when I lived in London. Now I live in the country, I am pleased if I just wing one of these devil creatures as I draw comfort from thoughts of its lingering death.

Firstly ferrets kill rabbits and chickens so if you think he thought of them as sisters your family must be odd.
They get sympathy for the same reason you feel bad for your ferret. He was killed by a much bigger animal and though ferrets can fight fiercely stood no chance.
Foxes are hunted by large packs of animals who are all much bigger than them and can run faster and further so it's just as unfair.
You should buy better shelters for your animals.Contary to what lots of tight country people claim it is possible to make a hen house or a shed with rabbits in fox proof!

Ten to one this was a fox. Foxes kill for the 'fun' of it. Occasionally to eat of course, but far from always which is why I basically hate 'em. It's one thing to kill to eat, but quite another to just kill. Lock up your chickens at night if there are foxes around especially because once they know where they are, they will come back. Do coons kill chicken? And more, would they kill for the fun of it?

I had 12 ducks,10 guineas, 30 chickens. I lost 1 chicken and 2 ducks to hawks when they were young one big hawk came with in 8 feet and almost got one duck but at the last moment few on by at about 2 feet off the ground. I move them in to a enclosed pen with a tin roof but didn't have enough to cover the roof fight, it worked for a while then I started loosing ducks one at a time, I found a loose place in the stapled chicken wire, by that time I was down to 3 ducks, the guineas roosted in tree I thought they would be safe, being full grown. But they started disappearing one ever few days, I have one guinea left I keep it with the ducks. I also lost some chicken that wanted to roost with the guineas. I was down to 18 chickens and kept them locked up tight, but started loosing one chicken a night, one night caught a raccoon, just killed a chicken, drop it crawled into the duck pen and hide by the roof. a few days later I shot it. how I have seen two gray foxes.

i understand where you are coming from as i to love animals a lot and if anything ever killed any of mine i would be very mad, but how about not killing him? i know thats hard to think about but you need to understand that it is in the foxes nature to kill. He doesnt know the difference thats why i cant try and kill my cats everytime they bring home a dead bird or a baby rabbit. I know it hurts and i know its hard but it is in his nature and it is not his fault. You can not train him to not eat your pets, the only thing you can do is better protect your pets, try a little barn for them, with a lock maybe, or you could keep them inside but i would imagine that would get noisy, dont kill him because it is not his fault it is how his ancestors act so thats how he will act. If you want to get rid of him try calling pest control or something, dont kill him.

That's awful, I'm not surprised you feel that way. I'm especially sorry to hear about Bert, I've had ferret too. One of mine was killed by a dog, I would have gladly shot it.

because you are in the fox's natural territory, not the other way around. It is not natural for you to have dozens of chickens caged in, so it's nothte fox's fault that you bring a delicious meal to his doorstep. it is your fault for disturbing the natural order. The fiox is just being a fox and you are just trying to insult a stupid animal.
