Separation of church and state is essential in a democracy.

Those words take away the civil rights of non-Christians or atheists.

At the same time that the US wants to keep Islam out of Iraq, it promotes Christianity in its own government. This shouldn't be okay with you, folks.

Because, it wasn't there to begin with. The First Amendment says that the government cannot establish a religion. This walks a very fine line in establishing one. It gets away with it only because it does not reference what God they are talking about. However, we all may not call God by the same name or may not even have a God at all. How would you feel if on the money it said instead in the Devil we trust. This wouldn't be establishing a religion either because it doesn't say what devil. Yet, how many of you will be petitioning to get it off of the currency and get it changed? The governement has no business putting God on the money or in the pledge. If they wanted to acknowledge a higher power why didn't they just use Creator like our forefathers did in the Declaration of Independence?

Personally - nothing to me.

But too many take the term "under God" literally, instead of the "spirit" of the phrase. Basically, our government has a certain basis in faith. And the atheists get their bloomers in a bunch and think that the government is pushing for them to believe in God.

I am sure that when first used, it was meant as a christian statement. But as the generations have passed, and immigrants from other religions have come to this country (with the freedom of religion clause) and practiced their religion, the phrase "under God" is more of a faith statement. I think everyone has faith in something - even in the almighty dollar.

It is not bad. There is a belief that the speration of Church and State meant that any reference to God Religion or Chrch must be wiped off Governmental property. Since our Rights (see Declaration of Independence) were given by our creator (which many could replace by God). If you take away God , you can also take away the rights he has granted us. Endowed is another word for given.

Because secularists can't stand it. They find anything even remotely mentioning god in any sense offensive. They feel it's an infringement on their rights.
It's just money people!
You guys who have a problem with it are probably the same nuts who forbid students from saying "merry christmas" at my high-school. When does "seperation of church and state" which is NOT in the constitution become a violation of our freedom of religious expression?

Well, for what it's worth, "under God" wasn't originally included in the Pledge. It was added, in the 1950s (I think) due to the scare of Communism in this country.

Its not that is bad it just ppl that dont believe in god dont like god to be in anything. But the U.S was bulit around god.

I don't know. "Under God" does not reference any particular religion. I guess it could be offensive to Atheists...
