I am Irish, have strayberry blonde / reddish hair, big brown eyes. My skin is fair, and I couldn't pay the sun to tan me. My husband said I am gorgeous, but it seems like I am always waiting for someone to tell me to get some sun! I enjoy the summer, and the beach, but at the same time, I don't go outside, and dread wearing shorts because of peoples rude questions or comments about my pale skin. It really hurts my feelings and makes me on edge and VERY self concious! I know the whole deal about skin cancer because I have had bouts with it. Should I pay to have spray tanning done every three weeks? Self tanner seems so fake and I would be scared to put it anywhere but my legs, because of oranging or patches. What can I do to not feel like a freak every time I am around people in the summer when they are all tanned? Are there any other pale people out there?

Im pale as can be honey! I am with you! I've decided to embrace it and be different than society's image of beautiful! Some people cannot acheive a tan in the sun successfully and furthermore it can result in severe consequences (skin damage, aging, sun spots, freckles, skin cancer, etc)! Us pale beauties are more subseptable to these consequences! On occasion I get the crude comments (well most of the time) and honestly I dont give a sh*t anymore... So what If I am pale and not the typical bronzed image! That is what makes me different therefor Im not going to look at it as a flaw (as some others may)... I am 23 years old (almost 24) and I kid you not I still look like I am between the ages of 16-18 due to lack of sun! I never mess with self tanners because I think most look orange and tacky on very fair skinned (personal opinion) I also think mystic tan looks fake as well (not on everyone just some)! All and all I decided I am who I am, I look the way I do, and Im still a beautiful girl (determined by myself not the close minded society)! I see no harm in playing with tan in a bottle if that will boost your self esteem but I dont think its necessary... fair skin was once a mark of beauty (way back when) and in my opinion it still is!

I have the same problems and it Sucks, I know. I have tried the spray tanning thing. It's more of a pain than anything else. You will always find something wrong with it. I started using the jergens lotion for fair skin that gives you some gradual color. Not like some where one minute your white then the next your orange! You can get it at Walmart in the lotion section. It's around $5 or $6 I think.
It's not so much about what other people think about me anymore, I suppose that comes with age, but it has boosted my self confidence~ Good Luck

I've got the irish too, and blond hair blue eyes-as a little one had the red hair-only tan lines I have are the farmers tan and that's nothing to get excited about. With all the comments, cancer etc.. it just isn't worth it and if your husband says your beautiful, that's all you need to worry about. Funny, how in the U.S. comments are made, but in other countries you see alot worse of how people will parade themselves and you wonder why? Needless, to say if you try the tanners-best of luck- otherwise most peoples comments come from people you may only see once in your lifetime, just ignore them and have a great life.

Yes! I am very pale. I have been told before that I should get some sun. Well I dont really care because when we are like 60 all those tan girls will look 80!! Our skin is going to look beautiful when we get older, provided we dont smoke like freight trains or anything like that. I have thought about trying to get just a little sun so I at least look healthy because sometimes one looks a bit unhealthy so pale like that. But I dont care if its not acceptable, its who I am and the rest will just have to get over it!!! :)

Pale people are pretty too. Especially with red hair and Irish traits. Just look at Nicole Kidman and Marcia Cross.
Stay out of the sun and tannings beds. Why damage your skin and risk cancer.

I'm Italian with dark hair, and I'm pretty fair myself (which is weird because most of my family is pretty dark). It does get annoying when people make stupid comments. I wouldn't worry too much about it, just ignore them.
And yes, most self tanners are pretty fake looking, but the one I use works pretty well. It doesn't really make you tan, it evens out your skin tone and gives it a little bit of a glow. It's Hempz Bronzing Lotion, you can get it at Trade Secret. It's kinda pricey, $23, but the bottle's pretty big and it'll last you a while.

It annoys me that persons tell me I could bypass get a tan. I even have very easy epidermis, and might particularly shop it that way so i don't get epidermis maximum cancers. i'm getting slightly tanner in the summer time in basic terms from being exterior, yet I parent if God made me gentle, then this is how I could be! I admit, I do from time to time use the "organic Glow" lotion - it makes me in basic terms a tiny bit tanner and has in basic terms slightly shimmer in it, which i actually like. It was that the paler you have been, the better your status simply by fact it meant you have been wealthy (did no longer could artwork exterior). Ironic.

you might not need sun so much as you might need minerals and vitamins you might be anemic.
i have the same complexion as you never tan never could look at it this way we are ahead of the game because tans are out everyone who doesn't live under a rock knows tanning and sunburns same thing really are dangerous cancer causing and can make a person look like worn out leather.
you should be proud of your heritage .

why do u care what these other people think or say about your skin tone ??
tell them to mind their own business.
of course there are other pale people out there,,,,and when you all get old your skin will be healthy and have less spots and wrinkles than all those sun-worshippers who will be all leathery and dried up.

If people keep dragging you out about your skin, don't care! Just say, "Why?... Do you want me to do something about it for YOU?!"
They'll back off... just tell them that everyone's different and special.
