Yes! Even though it is the goverment that can make a big difference... normal people can work together to help by using energy efficent lightbulbs and recycling!

Like most big questions, the answer is yes and no. There are some cyclical events which contribute to global warming, and we can't do anything about these. There are also things which humans do which DO contribute to global warming and those things -such as the use of fossil fuels etc. -we have all heard about, and there are tons of books, films and websites to tell us how we can help. There was, last week in Paris a meeting of 150 of the worlds top scientists who all agreed that global warming is largely caused by humans, and that one of the things we can do is use less electricity. The government of France even symbolically turned off the light on the Eiffel Tower to demonstrate their concern!

Its amazing how fast people put their emotions into an answer...as I read some of these answers it's clear that people want to blame everything else but themselves if in fact humans are causing the climate change. The true answer is no one really knows...if you really sit down and think about the question, the answer becomes clear (or very unclear)...it could be climate change, it could be years and years of pollutions from humans (it takes more than 8 years to pollute the Earth enough to change the climate - so stop all of the Bush hating & don't start hating on me because I didn't vote for him), it could a number of things but NO ONE can tell exactly what is causing the climate to change (not even Al Gore). All of the scienetist are still arguing over this question but I think blaming one single entity is a little ignorant.

Actually there are some natural things to blame before humans.
For example the methane from the decomposing bones of old animals is very bad. Not to mention more damaging to the planet then the Co2 that we humans mostly release. In Siberia the lakes are frozen with pockets of methane from old dinosaurs bones waiting to be released.
And there are even other reasons for globle warming. For example the fact that our obrit around the sun is getting closer to the sun thus causing more heat to melt ice in the polar caps.

I would refer to it more as climate change, and the current change is warming. However, we will go through a cooling change too. Cooling and warming are natural cycles of the Earth.
Below is a link to an ice-core sample that shows the trend for the last 400,000 yrs.

Yes YES YES
A resounding Yes.
Industry is the only difference (more or less) that has taken place over the past 200 years. We have poisoned the waters, and the skies, and now we will pay!
