She continues doing this despite her dentist telling her she will have no more enamel if she continues to over brush. Is it in her head? What makes her do this? Also, she has long hair, and she never brushes it. What's in her head? Can someone please explain why a person would do this?

She's got a few personality disorders going there. One is Obsessive Compulsive OCD with brushing her teeth and (probably) counting. She might be fighting depression this way so that she doesn't have to stop and really think deeply about her life!! She's just rushing around repeating patterns to stop the thought deadline that must be crushing in on her!! I thought I would never say this here, but she does need therapy. Also, some General MD's are now treating OCD but you need to ask their receptionist over the phone if he treats it before you waste anyone's money!! There are new drugs that help OCD!! @8-)

Compulsive behavior is not uncommon. She may have a fear of the dentist?
Who knows what the underlying problem is. Only her psychologist and her probably know.

Obsession. Not sure why people do these types of things, but I'm sure when she's toothless she'll finally say "Damn, should have listened to my dentist".
