It's a sexual orientation.
Homosexual - sexually attracted to one's on gender.
Bisexual - sexually attracted to both genders, though not necessarily to the same degree.
Heterosexual - sexually attracted to the opposite gender.

Someone who is bisexual is attracted to both men and women. A gay man is attracted, physically and emotionally to other men, a lesbian is a woman that is physically and emotionally attracted to other women. A bisexual can be a man or a woman who is attracted to both.
Just to add, having read a number of subsequent answers: this question is being asked by someone who clearly doesn't know and is probably quite young. All of you who are giving stupid answers, grow up. Drop the sarcasm and drop the disgusting jokes. There's a time and a place and this isn't it!

Someone that is Bisexual dos not prefer to be with only the opposite or same sex. They choose to date and have relationships with both sexes.

Usually they are attracted to the person rather than what sex the person is. The sex of the person is irrelevant - its the person them self that is attractive. This can obviously be male or female.
