I know this sounds stupid but I always thought it was 9 months exactly. Now I read 40 weeks = 10 months??

Its actually 10 months. A full 9 months is 40 weeks. If you go all the way to the end of the month it is 40 weeks. They take in consideration alot of factors including two week window for conception date and so on.

A baby is actually 5 months along at 24 weeks. You would think that is 6 months but it is not. It is weird and kinda hard to explain

I know it sounds confusing... Full term pregnancy is 40 weeks after your first missed period. That makes it 10 months... BUT you've not been pregnant that whole time. There is that time of ovulation that they are not really sure about but for MOST women they get pregnant in the time from of two weeks from their periods...

To make a long story short, A pregnancy is about 2 weeks ahead of gestational age. So you can be 30 weeks pregnant but you've acutally only had a baby growing in there for 28 weeks.

For your due date though they will quote your 40 weeks from the first day of your last missed period. But remember a baby is truly due within the span of a month, two weeks early or two weeks late from the due date is considered normal.... However it is calculated, it feels like an eternity in the end (I'm expecting in March :)

It is kinda wierd. It is 10 months if you count every 4 weeks as a month. it is 40 weeks form the LMP. However each month is really not exactly 4 weeks. Look at your LMP on the calander, say it is Oct. 31. Then Nov 31 then Dec 31 then Jan31... it is 9 monhts that way

Yep actually it is 10 months. It is 9 FULL months. That is what most people don't relaize this. 9 months is 36 weeks, but the full month is 40 weeks. Good luck

yes 40 weeks = 10 months, in an ideal world there would be only 28 days in every month, making 4 weeks. but unfortunatley there are 30/31 days in each month except for this month(leap year 28 days) so all them extra 2 or 3 days each month adds up to nearly another month. good luck

yeh, i got confused too. it's technically 10 months, but people say 9 months because most moms give birth at the end of the 9 months, so it's considered 10

40 weeks. Only February has exactly 4 weeks, the rest of months are longer.

This confused me too!!!!

It's 9 FULL months...you don't have the baby the day you turn 9 months pregnant...you go the WHOLE month and then at the end you would be starting your 10th month when you actually have the baby.

It took me awhile to figure that one out too ;)

37-42 weeks. It's not known exactly when conception takes place in a woman. So the system gives or takes 2 weeks.
