I wanted to pay my respects to him. I justy learned that he lived a very sad life. Divorced twice and had a hard time keeping a job because he was "a troublemaker". People didn't want to hire him. He was a janitor in a rest home when he died. How can such a great man, who did a great thing, like start the civil rights movement in Greensboro, which ultimately has affected everyone today, have had a sad life. I want to pay my respects to him and let him know he made a difference somewhere.

David Richmond is buried at Carolina Biblical Gardens, which is near Greensboro. For a number of years his grave wasn't marked because the family was waiting because some of Richmond's admirers wanted to do something special. It wasn't until later that a stone was placed with the inscription, ""David L. Richmond, 1941-1990, civil rights hero; one of the original Greensboro Four; Feb. 1, 1960; Love leads to Freedom."
