I just want to be able to edit some photos (not professional) and listen to music and edit some documents. It also needs a DVD player. What should I look for in terms of specs and price? Oh, and wireless is a must! I want to surf the internet at home on my wireless network.

Don't get a mac. If you have a budget, mac is not for you. Seriously.
you will spend less getting a new PC laptop & the software than on a mac. Go price it if you aren't convinced. Plus the PC, since 2004, will run Photoshop and other graphics programs faster & more reliably than a mac.
