I just checked my bank account and it says I have a negative balance. I guess what happened was Friday I paid my rent and that next day (Sat.) it had already posted to my checking account. I was supposed to be paid that same Friday as well. My employer was late with our checks and I had to wait until Saturday to get my money, unfortunately by that time it was too late. The rent check had already posted and I did not have enough in the account to cover it. I checked my account today and I have over $200.00 in overdraft fees, and my paycheck still hasn’t posted. So I was being charged on all those little things I purchased like gas, food, etc. If I call my bank and explain what had happened is it possible to have those removed? I bank with Bank one and have never had any other account problems. I though I was ok since I wrote the check Friday and was going to deposit the money on Saturday, but my apartment complex beat me too it.

I contacted my bank today and am only responsible for any fees assessed before I made the deposit. I will only have to pay 1/3 of the fees!

Yes, you can, but it all depends on how sympathetic your Bank manager is. I suggest you don't go in with all guns blazing because he'll simply look at it as "spending in anticipation." This is where Direct Deposit is so useful...
If your account has been in good standing as you say then he may well look at your situation in a favourable light.
Apartment complexes are notorious for doing things like this so the simple answer is to post-date your cheque.
Good luck!

Not if you bank at US Bank! This is how they pay there employees from this type of thing happens.
Been there done that.
Thirty five bucks first day, seven bucks every day you are in the red. If you do not check your account everyday (like us) and you got into this pickle you would be oweing.... this is only with US Bank though. I have never had this happen with any other bank but them.

US Bank if you call them there employees will tell you anything to get you off the phone, promise you the world, but from what I have seen they do not follow through.

If you were with US Bank you would have to pay the thirty five bucks for each check, then the seven dollar a day fee. If the check bounces this is thirty five bucks then thirty five bucks the next time they put the check in again....

Be lucky it is only $200 in fees. I see about double this if you were at US Bank. Maybe Bank One works with its customers? Please do not hold your breath and do not write any more checks....Everyone has made mistakes, something some banks rely on to make there money.

Banking is a business just like any other business and you were disclosed of your bank's overdraft policy when you opened your account. The bank did nothing wrong and simply enforced the policies that you agreed to previously. Whether they will reverse any fees will come down to how profitable a customer you are and how much Bank One values your business.....because you have never been overdrawn in the past they most likely will reverse one or two if you agree to set up overdraft protection. I think you realize that the blame here rests on you and your employer and not the bank so be grateful for whatever the bank is willing to do.

You will have to call the bank and talk to them about it. They might be able to help with one or two of the overdraft fees but really don't give your hopes up. Honestly, they will turn around and tell you, you shouldn't have wrote a check knowing you didn't have enough money in your account. They will say this is your fault. Unfortunately I have been in this same boat and wasn't able to get my money back. But like I said call the bank, they might be able to help you a little bit. Good Luck!

Call the bank. Assuming you haven't done this before, once you explain the situation they likely will take charges off, or maybe only hit you for one overdraft and not many. Lesson to be learned is never write check unless it is covered already

You will probably not get your money back. You should always check your balance before writting checks You should have made sure your check was deposited before you wrote them out. You can try making your case to the bank but I bet you never get that money back.

Your bank can reverse these overdraft charges at their discretion. What you need to do is to call the bank and speak to someone who is a supervisor, explain your story and ask if there is any possible way to have these charges reversed. I have done this in the past and they reversed my overdraft charges. Good luck!
