I live in the south in zone 8 and want to add some color to my front yard. What type of flowering perennials would be best? I want something that isn't too tall since I will be planting as a border around my sidewalk. Thanks for any suggestions!

dianthus comes to mind. You could mix in some annuals, depending on the season, to vary colors and textures.

I also live in Zone 8. I have daisies, astromeria, perennial salvia, purple heart and numerous other plants in my garden. Go to Lowe's garden center and see what they have. This will give you an idea of what you can grow where you live. Also, if you are near Albany, GA, go to Kitty's Flea Market in the early spring and get plants from local growers (non-commercial) for pennies on the dollar.

I always put in a few lavender especially near a walkway. As you walk by and brush it with you legs it gives off a beautiful scent. Definately put in a few, you will be very pleased.

you didnt say what kind of sunlight that you have because a lot depends on your sunlight or shade as for the height do want flowers 6 inches or 12 inches you said low please clarify. . .

I would suggest lilies, carnations, or peonies. They are about knee-high, beautiful, and easy to grow.
