Well I have one, and it's been a fantastic buy. I'd also recommend a "Big muff" pedal if you don't mind spending a bit extra.

If the sound is right for you then no. However, it's worth spending a little more to get something with more tonal integrity through a clean amp, is a better build and also has more flexibility through it's functions. Try a Marshall BB2 or a Boss DS1. Marshall BB2 is maybe your best bet. It gets some gorgeous tones out of single coil guitar and also works quite nicely with a humbucker. I had a DS1 and stuck with the BB2 after trying various other pedals too. Plus I got my BB2 for £40 brand new :)

Yeah, they're cheap, but they actually don't sound that great. They're made out of cheap plastic and the footswitch is flimsy. The DigiTech Hot Head is better and it's only about $15 U.S. dollars more.

If it gives you the sound that you are looking for, then go for it. You will need to take care of it as it is not very robust. Don't expect it to last forever.

If the god of guitarists had intended that the music should be spoiled with the sort of distortion you have in mind he would have given us all closable ear flaps to block out the dreadful sound
