I just get so fustrated because I try to feed her a little and it goes ok and then she gets a little cranky so I give her a little bottle and then its over she does not want anything else. I cant take the bottle away. How can I start her on solids sucessfully?

She is not ready. Just wait a little and don't force.

Your daughter is used to the filling feeling of drinking her bottle so if you try mixing her food a bit thinner (add milk or water) and be fast you will help her not feel so frustrated. Don't expect her to eat more that a couple of Tablespoons at the most per feeding and don't try when she is REALLY hungry. About an hour earlier than you would have given her a bottle, try giving her food. Then she can enjoy it for its flavor and texture and not be so consumed with filling her belly. The goal with solids right now is not nutrition but fun and experience. Take it slow, but don't stop. Research indicates that babies who have had no experience with solids by six months can reject solid food and develop eating issues (not necessarily disorders like anorexia but issues like pickiness etc).
Keep it fun. If she keeps getting frustrated, feed her food after she has had a bottle, just don't put as much in the bottle. This is a lesson that is important as they grow and the problems get harder; always keep the goal in sight (what are we teaching and why). The goal here is to give her experience and fun and develop good attitudes about food and eating, the volume and time are not part of the goal. Don't worry about how much, or when, just the fun and experience.
Good luck

Four months is young. Most doctors recommend six months because of the increase in allergies. That being said, I would wait to feed her solids directly in between normal bottle feeding times. That way she isn't starving, but she isn't full either. If she is too hungry, the solids are not going to satisfy her because she hasn't mastered eating yet. I started my six month old a week and a half ago on solids, and to be quite honest, she hates cereal. Basically, you are introducing a new texture and a new taste. It is a learning experience for them more than it is nutrition at this point. After trying it over and over again she'll come around. Some babies are particular about thier food so try different consistencies and see which one she likes. Also try the single grain oatmeal if cereal isn't cutting it. My daughter refuses the cereal but will accept the oatmeal. Different vegetables seem to go over better with infants than others. Squash and sweet potatoes tend to be bettter liked than green beans and peas. (every baby is different though) Keep trying. It even says on the box that sometimes it takes 10-15 times if giving ababy a food before they like it. My daughter likes the little jars of chicken (yuck) more than she likes cereal, oatmeal and green beans. Make eating fun, don't force the food and if your baby is getting frustrated than stop immediately. Another thing you can try that my daughter loves, is the Sassy teething feeder. You can put fresh fruit and veggies in there and they can gum the mesh..they get the flavor without you having to worry about them choking. Sometimes when my daughter is getting upset I give her these. It's good to make the high chair fun so that she learns to love to be in the high chair. At this point that is the most important thing to teach her, that food is enjoyable. Don't worry about how much she is getting because the bottle is her main source of nutrition and will be for quite a while yet.

I had the same concerns when I started my son on solids at 4 months(dr said it was ok). He would only take a couple spoonfuls and then would get frustrated. I kept trying everyday, just a little at a time and he started to get used to the idea of eating off a spoon. Now he is almost 6 months old and everynight at 6 or 630 we have a container of stage 1 baby food (usually sweet potatoes, he loves them) and he does really well. If you wait until she is very hungry then she will resist the spoon and only want bottle. Just be patient and keep trying, she will get used to it eventually. Good luck!

What are you trying to feed her? Is it in a watery mixture? Try something with a sweeter taste, nothing too sweet but something that will make her see that it tastes good. Try cereal with alot of milk/formula and maybe some fruit. Or just fruit, something that isn't bland. Just make sure it's watery and not thick. Her tummy is hungry and she knows that her bottle will fill her up fast, it just takes time. A little here and a little there. Give her time to adjust. Patience is the key. She'll figure out soon that food will fill her tummy better than her bottle. Good luck.

first of all when introducing solids at such a young age start with cereal just a little mixed IN the bottle very little not enough to clog the nipple...then go grdually from there you gotta remember her belly is small and not used to digesting solids so it is giong to upset her belly some and also fill her up very easily which is the reason she isnt taking much bottle after the solids...you really need to focus on the formula as this has all the vitamins and minerals she needs at this young age and only give solids once in awhile..

It's all in the timing. Give her solids in between bottle feedings. If you wait until she's very hungry, she's only going to want the bottle.

I give my 5 month old solids each evening about an hour after her last bottle. She does really well. Then she has her next bottle right on schedule.

Keep trying. At 5 months, she might not be ready yet. If she takes a little food, that's great! But she's still going to be getting most of her nourishment from the bottle for the rest of her first year. Take it slowly, encourage her with a wide variety of offerings, praise her success, but let her have her bottle. No worries! Keep doing what you're doing. She'll get there!

She is not ready yet. Hold off for another month or so and then try again, babies will let you know when they are ready for solids, mine all started between 3-4 months but I let them decide based off their food intake, sleeping patterns and weight gain. When you do try again mix a tablespoon of cereal and water with about a teaspoon of baby food, fruit is usually more palatable, and make it very runny, you could also try warming it up, because babies are used to having warmer liquids from you or a bottle.

The bumbo seat develop right into a sensible determination. also does she have a intense chair? That works as well. no matter if she's bottle feeding or eating toddler nutrition of she's hungry adequate she will be in a position of sit down as a lot as attain for it. don't worry. She's superb. considering she develop into born a month early she perhaps in the back of agenda really. provide her about yet another month interior the seat and intense chair she'll get the draw close of it.

she is too young to get off the bottle. Don't expect to get her off the bottle til age one. She will eat people food when she is ready. You need to give her mushy baby food first. Before you do that, you need to mix cereal in with her bottle. Baby cereal (not cheerios)
