What materials can you use?
This lesson teaches basic physics. What do you think will cushion the chip the best? Solid structure or something to allow the chip to bounce around.
How far will it be dropped?
If the box will not be damaged in the drop, I would let the chip "float" around, if the box could be damaged in the drop, a more solid "internal body cast" is called for.
Without knowing what you can use as protection, that is all the help I can offer. If its wide open, use jello, in balloons or something, that conform to the chip, or popcorn, or you could wrap the chip in plastic, and tie the structure to the corners of the box.
You could also make the box so that it takes the force and absorbs it.

Hmm yeah, cotton balls might work very nice... But here is another idea (a bit weird, I'll admit that) - what if you try to make some sort of net inside your box out of strings (even better if you find something just a bit elastic). You could think of it somewhat as a spider web that starts at the corners of your box and gets denser around the center - where i suppose the chip will be. Just my 2 cents :).

Take some cotton balls and pull them apart for a while so the can fill the box that should do it.

Good Luck

How about using styrofoam, bubble wrap, or cotton balls?
