Because we are the country that entered the mess in Iraq and it just so happens that most of the world is anit-war.

One reason is envy but another is that most Americans are viewed as arrogant. We try to force freedom on other countries, we are rich (compared to the rest of the world) and we are not afraid to use our money to boss around other nations. On the other side, there is no other nation hat is as generous as America and but that is easily forgotten.

Aside from being viewed as a country that sticks our noses where they don't belong, we are seen as arrogant, uncultured, and generally ignorant of other cultures and languages.
