So far, I have given my students a site map to use whenever they come across descriptions of different places in the story. Everyday I give them a bit more information they can use like the characterization of the main characters and a symbol here and there. What else can I do to peak their interests?

An activity I always use is called "cast the movie" I have students analyze the characters and cast who they think would be good in the roles and why they fit the character. Another activity is the Great Gatsby Road Trip. Have them create (on paper) a video game or board game, revolving around Gatsby.

When I was reading The Great Gatsby the teacher had us act out scenes from the book. This was actually very helpful towards understanding everything and getting something out of the story.

play music from the time period...talk about how socially progressive these characters were, relate them to celebrities of today...make a movie poster where each student picks actors/actresses to represent the characters...
