His failure to use the veto in his first 6 years in office makes it plain that his approval of things from Congress was strictly due to partisan politics.
If he'd have vetoed any of the many the pork-laden bills coming from the Republican Congress, I might sympathize with his position. But it sounds hollow for him to want it NOW, after it's become a Democrat congress.
I voted for him twice, still support him, but find his sudden desire for veto power a tad disingenuous and insincere.

Line item veto is long overdue. It gives the President the power to veto item by item, so he can get rid of stupid money-wasting stuff like bridges in Alaska that go nowhere.

The same thing I've thought when every other president brought it up. It's a way to cut pork, and it's a good idea.

It's not a bad idea, but it will never happen; Congress will never allow it because it reduces their power.
