Organized chaos? It may look to you like a tornado hit your daughter's room, but she probably knows where everything is.
I guarantee you that if the room were clean, it would take her a while to find anything!

haha. That's cute. My bedroom is the same way. Everything looks like it's haphazardly placed but I bet she knows exactly where everything is. As soon as I put something away, where it is supposed to go, I can't find it. It's easier just to have it out. A lot of artistic people operate this way. Make her clean it up once in a while (believe me, it won't kill her creative side) just so it doesn't get out of hand, but it's not a horrible trait to have. In my case, my car and bedroom are in this "organized chaos" state but at work or school, I'm ridiculously anal about how organized I am. It's just her personality

She doesn't think linear thoughts like you do. It's not "a place for everything and everything in it's place". Instead, her room is organized EXACTLY in the way that she thinks. And she knows where everything is.
It might help you to do this exercise with her: Sit down and think of something (say, cheese). Then both of you take one of those gameboard hourglasses and take THAT amount of time to write down what comes to mind after you think of cheese, then what comes to mind after the next thing, and on and on until the time is up. Then discuss WHY you thought of the things you thought about. You'll soon see that, though her thoughts make NO sense to YOU, that it's all very matter-of-fact for HER. Then apply that reasoning to her room.
For example, I am a list-maker. Not a list-user, mind you, just a list-maker. So I have to have a pen on every surface of every room and a piece of paper there too. Drives my husband batty, but he allows it because otherwise I'd be constantly in our computer room. All he asks is that I organize the info by the end of the day, and I just try to keep the pens out of reach of our 2 year old. Neither of my parents are this way, and it befuddled the guys in the military (I was Admin), but they had to acknowledge that I always got my work finished on time, and that, if I organized MYSELF at the end of the day, I was fine. I make lists to organize my chaotic thoughts

Funny you ask this I just watched the movie Chaos Theory last night, great quote at the end "It turns out there are few things that are more chaotic than that of a human heart. Speeding up, slowing down, pretty face, flight of stairs, it’s always changing no matter what happens. It’s an erratic son of a *****. But underneath all that bump to bump mess, there is in fact, a pattern, the truth. And it’s love. Most important thing about love is we choose to give it. And we choose to receive it, making it the least random act in the entire universe. It transcends blood, it transcends betrayal, and all that dirt that makes us human."

The term organized chaos is an oxymoron. Something which is organized is never in chaos.

Yes, it's an oxymoron, but some of us prefer to live that way. I think, however, your daughter best clean up her room!
