Event planners, party planners, wedding planners, and corporate events. They can make a lot of money if they're self employed. I think wedding planners make $35K +. But that's if you work for someone else. If you get enough clients and have your own business, you can make 6 figures. Median annual earnings of meeting and convention planners in May 2004 were $39,620. The middle 50 percent earned between $31,180 and $50,790. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $24,660, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $65,060.

Event management is a lot of hard work and long hours. Most of your events are going to be on evenings and weekends. As an event manager you will not only be instrumental in helping to coordinate the events with the client, but will also have to be there at the events to make sure everything is going well.

You will have to work with sound/lighting, catering, facilities, and vendors.

It can be stressful. But it can also be fun and interesting to meet a lot of different people, see a lot of different events, and even meet some celebrities (depending on where you work).

You might be able to get this type of job without having to take courses. It just depends on what your background is. I have done this type of work and had no previous experience in event management or any coursework in event management.

Best suggestion I can give you is to try to develop customer service and management skills. If you can do that, see if you can look at venues in your area and check if any are hiring for event management. Even if not, they might be hiring for something else, and you could do that for awhile to get your foot in the door and then move up to event management.
