It's way too cold up there for that little gremlin that runs out and turns it on when you open the door. He likes to hang out behind the pickle jar.

1. Those late night snacks, when you wake up, you need a light in the fridge... to have a snack right away, not wait til it's defrosted. Most snacks are in the fridge.

2. Not enough room in the freezer for a bulb.

3. Extreme temperatures, they didn't think they could put one in there. Now, some freezers do have light.

Great question.

Probably because the fridge is much deeper and would be harder to see things especially on the bottom. The freezer is generally only one or two shelves so that would be my guess.

i think its because the stuff in the fridge needs light to see, but in the freezer the cold air keeps everything light and its not as crammed as the fridge.

There's a light in my freezer, as well as the fridge.

Because the quicker cooling effect of a freezer would crack a bulb if it was hot. You would need a low watt bulb of approx. 5 watts or less to have it not generate an excess amount of heat. Most freezers today have low watt light bulbs.

Actually, my new freezer has a light. I guess somebody at the refrigerator/freezer factory thought the same thing, and decided to go ahead and add one.

some do some don't.... the smaller the freezer, the less likely there is one.

so guesses on why:
-frezzers usually for storage, fridge for what you want right now.
-most i've seen without lights the frezzer is at eye level, and does not need extra light to make it easy to see inside
-final guess.... lightbulbs might not last as long in frezzer... (especially for older ones... which almost never have lights.)

I never thought about that but the other night I woke up and had the munchies. I went to the freezer for a fudge bar & ended up opening a damn orange popcycle. Great question!

i think because the fridge is for daily use and the freezer for storing . or the heat of the light can effect the freezin proccess
