My 5 yr. old twins eat up what they watch on tv and I've never let them watch ANYTHING but public tv like seasme street BIG BIG world and Dragon Tales. Guess what effect tis had on them? They've learned sharing, colors, numbers how ti put theirselves in other peoples place, counting using their imagination, family and group activities, taking care of their pets, being kind to their friends and others making crafts , especially on the Good Night show, and learning about their world in general. They go to school half days, but all they've learned from the tv programs they watch enhances what they learn at school, and their teachers say they are doing GREAT, and I might add my boys were in an developmently delayed pre-school class, but will be going into regular kindergarten due to their remarkable progress!!!!!

Here's something you might want to look at for research:
"The Plug-in Drug," by Marie Winn.
You might also bear in mind that quotes from Yahoo Answers do not constitute valid research in academic work, but may supply only anecdotal evidence.

yes television makes a definate impact on the kiddies, on adults too ! heres the perfect example. i sit with my kids (6,7,8,9) everytime they watch tv. my oldest wanted to know about childbirth, so we watched the having babies channel - they blur out the private area of mommie- we watched , she got her questions answered. the very next day i found all four girls in the playroom bare-*** naked squatting over their baby dolls screaming their heads off. - they were "giving birth" to their "babies" ok so maybe watching that show wasnt a good idea. but it was kinda cute in an odd sort of way.

Oh yes, definitely. My 2 year old son has a tendency to mimic what he sees on TV, which means we have to monitor what he watches very closely.

No, its the parents. depending what you are asking. violence has been around long before tv as well as sex and anything else that goes with it. one can watch tv and have a normal life. its what one person makes of theirs. but its also the parents responsabilty, to keep their children in check.
