It is because these folks have such a limited vocabulary, that they feel it necessary to use "gay" as a pejorative adjective. These are probably the same folks who make too much use of four-letter words, since they can't come up with anything bright or original.
What's going on here? Ignorance and bigotry. There is the underlying assumption that anyone in earshot will just "know" that gay = bad, when we know that these words have nothing to do with each other.
You have two choices when you hear such a remark:
1) Call the user on their discriminatory and hate-filled language; or
2) Terminate the conversation and walk away.
If you do neither, then you are condoning such use.

(D)Evolution of language.
Those who initiated its use in this manner did so pejoratively and precisely because it "has been accepted as a mark of pride for homosexuals"
The sad thing is it has near enough become common parlance and the majority of those who use it give no consideration that it is disrespectful of homosexuals. It is just applied generally to gaudiness or garish fashion - stereotypically associated with outlandish, (caricaturised) flaming queens.
In a perverse way, I say let the word continue to be used in this way - those that use it are just enforcing the existence homosexuality in their (closed) mind-sets and, from this, acceptance could stem.

i tend to get madder at women persons who say they do no longer seem to be for issues like women persons's rights, yet i'm getting extra insulted whilst adult males say it. i might a lot particularly have a communicate with a girl approximately it than a guy, in basic terms simply by fact they bypass by it yet chosen a distinctive opinion as a replace of a guy who won't be able to truly relate as a lot. I even have pals that are females that don't think of girls persons could vote, yet i do no longer think of i may be pals with a guy that announces those issues. it relatively is sexist yet this is in basic terms how i think. it additionally relies upon on what you propose via "anti-lady". Do you no longer have faith they might desire to exist, like anti-weapons or something, or do you in basic terms accept as true with specific stereotypes. besides i'm bored with writing now, stable success with being sexist, certainly what did you assume?

I know, i totally disagree with it. I see the schoolkids around town, everything remotely bad they call "gay" and I jsut keep thinking that there's a group of like 12 of them, statistically one of them HAS to be gay.
But so many things get labled. Taking care of your appearance if you're a man, i mean what's up with that? I don't look good with a beer belly hanging out my fried chicken stained t-shirt, so sue me?
Things like pink shirts as well. Pink compliments our skin complexion more than it does women, the people who refuse to wear it probably think they'll be thought of as gay. Isn't that really the issue they need to address? Women know, or if they don't then it takes 20 seconds to set them right. At the end of the day I take care of my looks, dress nice (I actually only own 2 pink shirts out of over 50, one to go with a suit and another is one of those striped polo shirts) and i meet plenty of beautiful women that are interested in me. What are these guys afraid of?
Gay isn't bad, afraid is bad.

You got it right in one; some people, I thought it was mostly kids, but apparently not, say that if they think something is weird, or stupid, or whatever, even if there is nothing sexual in any way about it, they will say, "That's gay!" I remember doing that as a child, but that was a good twenty five or so years ago. It's weird that people still do that.

Just another form of abuse and ignorance. Imagine if instead of gay, people said things like, Oh My Gawd that's so Black or Wow this music is so Jew. You can imagine the reaction then can't you.

I agree with you! I also catch myself saying the same things, it is just something we pick up automatically living in society. I don't know how we could change it though. Just be more aware, I guess.

It is society, let this go on because they do not respect the gay community and/or their feelings. But no one seems do be doing anything about it.. and that pisses me off.

because the word gay is almost synonomous with unsatisfactory. So if something upsets you or makes you angry in anyway you just say 'That's Gay!!'
