OR is like a union so shade both regions, not their intersection

so, shade everything from -1 to 5 not including 1 and 5

To shade this set of inequalities, you would put a hollow circle at -1 and a hollow circle at 5, then shade everything between them.

Had it been "greater or equal to", then you would make the circle solid instead of hollow.

Had it been AND instead of OR, you would only shade from 2-3 (where the two inequalities are both true). Since it is OR, your solution set is where either inequality is true, which is -1 to +5, excluding -1 and 5.

Haven't heard of much need for the OR option on a graph before.
