We have an old AO Smith gas furnace (Hydronic Boiler) with hot water radiators. Lately the furnace occaisonally starts making a low-frequency whistling sound (like a train) after it has been running for some time. The sound will stop if I shut the furnace off for a few minutes and then back on again. Furthermore, I have noticed that this sound will stop when the the burner shuts off. The gas burner will cycle off periodically (for a minute or so) while the the water pump continues to run. During this time when the burner is off, the sound goes away but starts up again when the burner restarts. This tells me that the noice is not coming from the water circulation system, but from the gas. Any help would be appreciated.
