My car won't start in the freezing cold weather. It starts fine when it's a bit warmer, but not in the cold. Someone told me to get an engine heater, but I don't know where to start. I cannot use anything that has to be plugged in, because I live in a 2nd story apartment. And I'm pretty close to broke. Help!

If the only way to do this is with a plug, then what do you recommend.

If you can't plug it in you can't heat it. Just do the normal cold weather stuff. Use Mobil 1 5W20 synthetic oil. Have a good battery and cables. Always use name brand gas to be sure you have the best cleaners and additives. Stuff like that.
Getting cheap on proper maintenance is never good no matter how broke you are. It always costs you more money in the long run.
