I have a decent feeling about this dunk contest. Though, I've never been much of a Nate Robinson fan, Dwight Howard, Tyrus Thomas, and Gerald Green are absolute beasts in the air. And with this panel of judges (Julius Erving, Kobe Bryant, Vince Carter, and Michael Jordan himself), I feel like this years dunk contest may be pretty solid after all.
Who's your pick?
Nate Robinson
Dwight Howard
Tyrus Thomas
Gerald Green

I forgot the final judge when I wrote this before, Dominique Wilkins is also going to be judging the contest with the four others.

I gotta agree with you guys, Gerald Green taking it over Tyrus in the finals. I just hope he doesn't get ripped off like Andre Iguodala last year. Nate was impressive after his first dunk, but after that he wasn't anything spectacular. I think he could be replaced by some great rookie dunker... Rudy Gay, Rodney Carney, James White (If he's even still on a roster).
Still, I'm looking forward to this one, it should be fun to watch, and the judges seem legit, for the most part. No more Magic Johnson giving a 10 for every single dunk he sees lol.

I didn't know that was the participant list. This should be a great contest... but how the heck did Dwight Howard get in? He isn't athletic, just big and strong. He and Nate will be out in round 1, and Green will beat Tyrus Thomas. Maybe Kobe will come away from the judges table and show Nate how to do a dunk without missing 18 times first. lol

Nate is in the competition because he won last year, but my personal opinion is that he should be replaced with a rookie like you said, Carney, Gay, heck... even Ryan Hollins of Charlotte, the kid's insane. Ronnie Brewer of Utah is very athletic as well.

And to the guy who says Tyrus's height is a disadvantage... no it isn't. He is the same height as Rudy Gay, and no one would discount him.

Well I agree with most of you, Green has the best shot of taking this year's dunk contest title. He's such a versatile player that he can pull any dunk off and make it look good. He's my number 1 pick for this year's title.

I think Nate Robinson is washed up. No offense, I love Nate, but he's so short that he has probably no more dunks left to do. I'm sick of the judges giving him points because his height is a disadvantage.

Dwight Howard is a great basketball player, no question about it. However, his ability to make nice dunks is often questioned. His height is certainly a disadvantage and he would have to pull off something like Amare Stoudemire did 2 years ago.

Tyrus Thomas is my second choice for this year's Dunk Contest. He is young and has the ability to make magic with the ball in the air. His height is no problem but he recently was telling the press that the whole contest was to get "free money." Ty Thomas is my boy, but he shouldn't have said that.

Because Tyrus Thomas was disrespecting his club as well as the good name of the Dunk Contest, he is likely to be replaced. Rumors of a replacement dunker include rookie James White. His performance in the 2006 NCAA Dunk Contest was astonishing and he would be a perfect candidate for this year's.

The judging this year is a new twist on the Dunk Contest. It seems as if NBA Legends are being replaced from the judging panel by currently active NBA stars. This year's panel will include Julius Erving, Michael Jordan, Dominique Wilkins, Kobe Bryant and Vince Carter. Other than Julius Erving, who was considered the innovator of the dunk itself, is the only judge in this year's contest to not have won a Dunk Contest title himself.

This is sure to be a great Dunk Contest year with new twists, surprises, and experiences.

All these guys are serious high flyers. I think that Dwight Howard's and T.T.'s height is definitly goign to be a setback for them. Big guys need to get real creative to win the dunk contest. This could be a great dunk contest I agree. I think that a lot of people are still mad about Nate getting so many chances last year. I am going to give the nod to Gerald Green. Go on NBA.com and check out his dunk highlight video. Pretty impressive.
