Well.. I've got a very promising Interview on thursday and I have a feeling I will get the job..my problem is..I've been at my current job for 3 years and like it here and am scared about leaving them. This new job pays better, is closer to home, and has benefits and room for me to grow with the company. The job I have now has no benefits, I've gone about as far as I can go. How do I tell them I am leaving?
Thanks for all the help..

If you get offered the new job you will want to give your old job two weeks notice.
How about saying something like, "I have been offered a great position with another company that is too good for me to pass up. I have really enjoyed working here, and I thank you for the opportunity to work here these past years. I've learned a lot and will miss the people I've been lucky to work with."
Good luck!

I am in the same situation, well besides the whole new job thing. I am looking though, but it is hard to figure out a way to tell the old job that you have found a better opportunity. They should know that there is no where to advance there and they should want you to go and better yourself, and you should want that for yourself too. What ever you say it is not going to be easy but just remember all the good reasons that you are leaving. Congratulations and Good Luck at your new job!

Well, most employers want at least 2 weeks to fill in the void. However, I gave my boss notice once and he never took warning. I have the same problem with mine job. I have an offer on the table but I have to see the job site first. For my position I may have to give a 3 weeks because of all the work I do.
It is understandable that you feel guilty but you stated the pros to the job. Like mine I've been at it for 10 years same employer but I have to move on if they won't offer me what I want.
Good luck!

Normally it should be a one month notice, but concerning you leaving the job i think that if you been there for 3 years you are a very good at wat you do so i think that if you tell them that you have had a better job proposal an you want to cease the opportunity because you think that it is the right time in your they will understand and keep a open door for you in case you ever wont to come back. Just explain them like it is and you will see every thing will work out.Good luck

Laura,
Ya gotta look out for yourself. It seems other than the friends you have at this current job, it has nothing else to offer.
You probably went LOOKING for another job somewhere after you spoke to the company president or whatever...and was promptly told that "we value your contributions, but...blah blah..."
Two weeks notice is standard. Put it in writing and give the letter in person to the head of the organization, so there are no misunderstandings, failure of the underling to inform the top
dude/ette, etc., etc. If you don't find that they do not announce your immenent departure within three days, tell your friends at lunchtime or after work. You can keep your friends, but you can't keep working where you are and expect to get ahead.

Most employers will understand if you are leaving for a better job. Just tell them that you found a better job with more future opportunities. If they are decent, they will be happy for you and sad you are leaving at the same time.
Please give them at least 2 weeks notice at a bare minimum - a bit more if you can spare it. Any less is considered rude and won't bode well for future references.

Give them 2 weeks notice. Ask to meet with your supervisor privately. You don't have to go into great detail, just tell them how much you appreciate being given the chance to work and have loved it but it is time for you to move on. Good luck.

dont tell them your leaving.. Give them an altimatum. Let them know you have a potentially better offer and would like to know if they would consider matching it. Meaning, offer you benefits and a raise. I wouldnt let them know this until you def get the other job though. Dont screw yourself on both jobs..
